Experience of International Quality Control for coagulation (1985-1990)

Abstract
The Department of Clinical Pathology, Seoul National University Hospital has participated in 'ICSH Task for Quality Control in Blood Cogulation' which has been organized by 'National(UK) Reference Laboratory for Anticoagulatn Reagents and
Control'
since
1980. Four trials have been performed a year for many for many coagulation tests, which are different at each trials. We had alread reported the data from 1980 to 1981 and now report the data from 1985 to 1990 about the major tests, such as
prothrombin
time and oral anticoagulant control, activated partial thromboplastin time and heparin control, the factor VIII: C assay and fibrinogen. From these data our laboratory obtained relatively satisfactory results except for a few test items of some
trials.
As the coagulation tests produce various results, which effect on the interpretation of anticoagulant assessment, depending on the reagents and the methods of the tests, the quality control between the laboratories is very important.
In Korea, it is necessary to program the national external quality assessment and provide a uniform basis of laboratory control of anticoagulant dosage.
